Prashant S Shelke: Working Hard and Loving it!
I started this project from scratch and took care of it like a baby. It makes me proud that I could crack it for Ninjacart.
I joined Ninjacart in February 2021 as an Area Supply Manager for Onion Infinity Project in Ahmednagar. A month later, the second wave of COVID-19 hit and all the mandis were closed. Starting a project from scratch is already challenging, lockdowns added a whole new level of hurdles in our way. To understand the ground reality, we visited the mandis when they opened for a 3-4 hour window. We used that limited time to onboard vendors. Yet, we only managed to ship one or two vehicles of onions per day.
I travel 200 km between markets daily to scale up the business. It keeps me engaged for long hours but I love doing it.
In the initial days, I was working 18 hours per day on the project. I hired executives and trained them well on my own for the project. Since the mandis were closed, we began visiting every farmer’s home in every village personally to establish a procurement line. We talked to every individual farmer which established trust and helped us onboard them and scale up our business. We obtained several contacts and almost all of them worked out for us. We started from zero but now we’re able to ship up to 15 vehicles of onion every day.
To grow in life and business, you should not have the mindset of relaxation and chilling. You must utilise your work-time and learn continuously. Ninjacart provides you learning opportunities that you won’t find anywhere else.”
I had a white-collar job before joining Ninjacart. My experience at Ninjacart taught me many ground realities which completely changed my views regarding my work. Every day comes with a new lesson. It also taught me organizational skills like building a foundation, launching a project, and breaking down a complex problem to make it simpler. The relationships I formed along the way now feel like family. This is my greatest achievement.
